Purplicious

Last year, my uncle cleaned some kid stuff out of his house, and we ended up with boxes full of books.  Every few months I go through and pull out a few that Miss A and Little J might like. Recently I found Pinkalicious and Purplicious.  Both have become big hits at our house, especially Purplicious, I think because Miss A loves to paint.

Purplicious begins and ends with Pinkalicious painting.  At first the other girls are making fun of Pinkalicious for liking pink so much, but in the end, there is a girl painting a cake will blue frosting.  She says her cake doesn't look right, and she needs some pink because, "Pink is Powerful."  She mixes the pink paint with the blue and makes purple.  So, that's exactly what we did.  Miss A loved mixing the colors, and painting her purple masterpiece.

'
Miss A loved this activity so much that soon after, we mixed colors again.  This time instead of just pink and blue we also mixed blue and green, and pink and yellow.  I put the paint in paper bowls so the mixing would be (hopefully) a little less messy.  We included Little J in the mixing this time, and she enjoyed it as much as Miss A.  By the end, even Daddy was involved, and both girls were covered in paint (funny how that works).

Toddler (& Baby) Activity: Paint the Deck

One of Little A's current favorite activities is painting.  Given a choice of what to do, it's very often her suggestion.  So one day last week when Little A asked to paint, I set both Little A and Baby J up to paint the deck.  2 paint brushes and 2 plastic cups and they were entertained for about a half an hour (which is a pretty long time in toddler terms).

After painting the deck lost its appeal, Little A moved on to painting Baby J.  Both girls thought that was very hilarious!
Notes: We stained our deck earlier this summer, so the water just kind of beaded up.  It made painting a little less exciting for me, but the girls didn't seem to mind at all.  Also, when E built our deck, he added a gate with a latch (that Little A still hasn't figured out).  That makes for the perfect outdoor space for the girls to play.

Toddler Time: Sorting Activity

Here's a really easy sorting activity I put together for Little A. Something similar was set up at our ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education) class this winter, and I kept it in mind for a rainy day (or snowy, like it was this morning).

Supplies:
Fuzzy Craft Balls
Colored Paper
Cupcake Tin
I got rainbow colored fuzzy craft balls, and punched circles out of matching pieces of cardstock. I set the circles in the cupcake tins, and put the fuzzy craft balls in a bowl and put Little A to work. This kept her busy for a long time. I had 80 fuzzy craft balls, and after she got them all sorted, she asked for more! I call that success!!
